The Mystery behind Corpse Husband: How One Faceless YouTuber Became the Talk of the Internet

While 2020 has brought a unique opportunity to influencers to rapidly rise in popularity due to increased usage of social media during the Covid-19 pandemic, none have matched the sudden craze that the YouTuber Corpse Husband has attracted.
Corpse Husband started out as an influencer who would tell horror stories on his YouTube channel, and gained a following due to his unique deep voice and storytelling abilities. He was quite successful with this format, with most of these videos having anywhere from 500,000 to just over 1 million views. His biggest problem was related to the infrequency to which he posted, having posted only 3 of these videos within the past year. It seemed as though this channel was destined to fade as many others have in the past.

His fortunes were suddenly reversed when he decided to join the gaming realm, as he began playing the massively popular strategy game Among Us with some of YouTube and Twitch’s biggest stars with the most prominent being Pewdiepie and James Charles, the former being the largest individual content creator in the world. This transition began in early September, and his traction has continued to grow tremendously across his social media platforms. In the past 30 days, he has more than doubled his YouTube subscriber count all the way up to 4.3 million, an increase of nearly 2.4 million. He has amassed 43 million views within this timeframe which can be largely contributed to his 3 Among Us videos shown below and is estimated to have earned $39,000 within this month-long stretch.

That being said, his fame has hardly been contained to YouTube. His Twitter following has increased by a staggering 478% over the past month, as he has gained nearly a million new followers within this span. His engagement numbers are unbelievable as well, with his last 9 tweets all having at least 200,000 likes. He has personally trended many times worldwide since his prominence rose in September and remains the talk of both the gaming world and twitter as a whole due to the mainstream appeal that Among Us brings.
Corpse has garnered even more attention due to the fact that he has never publicly revealed his face, and this can be viewed as a strategy to drive even more interest towards himself. He has played into this interest by using several unheard-of tactics with his internal marketing, with a focus on cross-channel growth. On October 1, he tweeted that if he reached 100,000 followers on Instagram within 24 hours he would post a picture just containing his hand. Within 4 days he blew by this target, passing the 200,000 follower mark on this platform. These playful interactions where he uses his anonymity to his advantage have presented him with the opportunity to lean into his humorous personality to gain a following in a way that doesn’t present itself as desperate or unnatural.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of Corpse has been his budding music career. His distinctive deep voice has allowed him to enter the rap industry in a unique way, and he currently has 3 songs within the top 20 of the Global Top 50 on Spotify including the #2 song on this list. He averages just over 3 million streams a month on his music, and this alternative offering allows him another outlet to pursue if he decides to eventually leave the YouTube platform.

Beyond wanting to investigate the growth phenomenon that Corpse has garnered, we wanted to highlight the opportunity that lies within the use of Corpse’s platform for brands and other influencers. His marketing tactics and versatility of offerings showcase his own internal marketing strategy, but he doesn’t currently have any concrete brand deals that will surely come in the near future. In our opinions, partnering with Corpse offers an unmatched opportunity to benefit off his staggering growth and fantastic engagement figures. He will only grow from here and the price will never be lower for brands and influencers to partner with him. If you manage a brand that needs to establish a distinctive image and attract the demographic of North American individuals aged 13-25 across both genders, Corpse is an outlet that must be pursued to achieve growth on both sides of the aisle.
It will be fascinating to see what he has planned to continue to grow his platforms, and whether there are any more twists he will turn to to continue growing the aura he has cultivated surrounding him.
